For a deep clean, fill with 91% isopropyl alcohol and coarse salt, cap the openings, and shake gently until the loop runs clear, then rinse well. Skip boiling water, since sudden temperature swings can crack glass.

Is a 6-inch rig too small to be practical?

How much water should I add?

Start with just enough to cover the perc, usually an inch or two above the slits. Take a test pull with no heat and adjust from there. Too much water splashes up the neck; too little and the perc can't filter. With smaller rigs, a bit less water almost always pulls smoother.
