Hold this pipe up to a window and the light runs straight through the stripes. That's the payoff of building color into clear glass instead of on top of it.

A spiral of colored cane wraps the whole spoon, starting at the bowl and running all the way to the mouthpiece. Some bands are solid, some are white lattice, and some are a fine mesh pattern. We think it looks like a barber pole designed by someone who really likes color.

At 5 inches it has a little more room than a pocket spoon, without turning into a desk piece.

Why the Spiral Is Worth a Closer Look

Every part is striped. Plenty of spiral pipes we see only twist color down the stem. On this one the bands climb up and over the head too, so the bowl matches the rest of the pipe.

Mixed cane, not one stripe. Each band is a different style of cane. You'll see solid color, thin white latticino (lace-like threads of white glass) and a woven green mesh, all in one pipe.

Clear base glass. The stripes sit in clear borosilicate, so the colors stay crisp and you can see inside the stem (handy for us glass nerds). That makes cleaning day obvious.

Five inch feel. The extra inch over a pocket spoon gives the smoke a little more distance before it reaches you, and the pipe fills your hand better.

Colors and Options

Red Mix is the boldest, with red, yellow, blue, white lattice and green mesh bands.

Orange Mix trades the red for orange, with navy, yellow and brown bands. It reads warmer and a bit darker (our pick for fall).

Green Mix leans on the green mesh cane, paired with bright blue, yellow and white.

Each pipe is hand-worked, so the spacing of the spiral and the order of the bands vary a little from piece to piece.

The 5" Multicolor Spiral Hand Pipe is a 5 inch clear borosilicate glass spoon with a built-in bowl and a side carb. A spiral of colored cane wraps the head, stem and mouthpiece. It comes in Red Mix, Orange Mix or Green Mix and is made for dry herb.

How to Use It

Grind your flower, then fill the bowl without packing it tight. Put a finger over the carb, light the edge of the bowl and pull gently. Lift your finger at the end of the draw to clear the stem.

Pass it to the left if you're sharing. A 5 inch spoon handles a couple of people better than a tiny pocket piece.

Pro Tip: Light the corner of the bowl instead of the center. We've found it keeps the rest of the pack green for the next person and makes the bowl last longer.

Who It's For

The upgrader: You've been using a small spoon and want something with more presence that still travels.

Glass nerds: You like seeing cane and latticino work up close, and you want to know how the stripes were made.

Small groups: Two or three friends passing one pipe will appreciate the bigger feel.

Worth Noting: Clear glass shows resin in the stem quickly. It's easy to see when to clean, but the pipe won't hide a missed week.

Care and Cleaning

We tap the ash out after each bowl and run a pipe cleaner through the stem every couple of days. For a full clean, put the pipe in a zip bag with 91% isopropyl alcohol and coarse salt, shake for a minute, let it sit, then rinse with warm water.

The colored cane is part of the glass, so alcohol and salt won't fade it.

Warning: Let the pipe cool before cleaning. Hot glass meeting cold water can crack. Never put it in the dishwasher, and keep it away from hard countertop edges.

Common Questions

What are the stripes on this pipe made of?
The stripes are colored glass cane fused into clear borosilicate, not paint or tape. Some bands are solid color, some are white latticino lace, and some are a green mesh pattern. Because they're glass, they won't wear off with cleaning or handling.
How are the three color mixes different?
Red Mix uses red, yellow, blue, white lattice and green mesh bands. Orange Mix swaps in orange, navy, yellow and brown for a warmer look. Green Mix puts the green mesh up front with blue, yellow and white. All three share the same 5 inch shape.
Is a 5 inch pipe too big for a pocket?
A 5 inch spoon fits most jacket pockets and bags, but it's snug in a front jeans pocket (it does fit, just barely). Our advice is a soft pouch or a padded case for carrying. If you want true pocket size, our 4 inch spoons are the better match.
Does the spiral go over the bowl too?
Yes, the spiral wraps up and over the head, so the bowl is striped like the rest of the pipe. That's one of the reasons we picked this design. Many spiral spoons stop at the neck and leave the head plain or a single color.
Will I be able to see resin build up?
Yes, the base glass is clear, so you'll see resin collect in the stem between the stripes. Most daily smokers give it a salt and alcohol soak every week or two. A quick soak brings the clear sections back and makes the colors pop again.
Can two or three people share this pipe?
Yes, a 5 inch spoon is a comfortable size for passing between two or three people. The bowl holds a bit more than a pocket spoon, and the longer stem keeps the bowl farther from your face. For bigger groups, a bubbler or a bong suits better.
Does it come with a screen?
No, the pipe ships on its own with no screen included. The bowl works fine without one if you pack a coarser grind at the bottom. If you prefer a screen, a small glass daisy or brass screen will sit in the bowl of a 5 inch spoon.
