Oil Slick Editorial

Who Writes Our Guides

Every buying guide, technique tutorial, and product review on Oil Slick Blog is written by our in-house editorial team in Bellingham, Washington. We have been covering concentrates, dabbing, and smoking accessories since Oil Slick launched in 2007.

Our editorial process is hands-on. We test the products we write about. When we say a quartz banger holds heat for 45 seconds, that number comes from a stopwatch and an infrared thermometer on our workbench, not a spec sheet. When we recommend a dab temperature range, it comes from sessions with the actual concentrates.

What We Cover

  • Dab rigs and bongs -- Glass selection, percolation types, joint sizes, and what actually matters when choosing a piece
  • Quartz bangers and nails -- Heat retention testing, chazzing prevention, flat top vs beveled, sizing guides
  • Dabbing technique -- Cold start method, temperature control, carb cap airflow, terp preservation
  • Concentrate storage -- Silicone vs glass, humidity control, light exposure, long-term preservation
  • Cleaning and maintenance -- ISO soak methods, ultrasonic cleaning, daily routines that extend the life of your gear
  • Materials science -- Borosilicate vs soda lime glass, platinum-cured vs peroxide-cured silicone, quartz grades, titanium safety

Our Background

Oil Slick pioneered platinum-cured silicone products for the concentrate industry. We manufactured the original Oil Slick Pad, the first non-stick silicone surface designed specifically for concentrate extraction. That product won industry awards because it solved a real problem that parchment paper and generic silicone could not.

Since then, we have tested thousands of products across every category we sell: dab rigs, bongs, quartz bangers, carb caps, hand pipes, nectar collectors, grinders, and storage containers. We stock what meets our standards and write honestly about the tradeoffs in each category.

Editorial Standards

We do not publish sponsored content. We do not accept payment to feature or review products. Our buying guides recommend products based on testing and value. When we include specific products in a guide, it is because we carry them and stand behind them, not because someone paid for placement.

If a product has a weakness, we say so. If a cheaper option works just as well, we say that too. Our job is to help you make good decisions, not to upsell you on gear you do not need.
