This range slows terpene loss dramatically while keeping the texture workable, so you are not fighting rock-hard oil every time you want a dab. The catch with fridges is that they are humid and full of food smells. Rosin in a poorly sealed jar can pick up moisture and odor, so an airtight glass jar is not optional here. It is the whole point.
For anything longer than about a month, the freezer wins and it is not close. At -4°F (-20°C), degradation nearly stops. Studies on cannabis extracts stored at -20°C show virtually no measurable loss of THC or terpenes even after long stretches, because freezing essentially pauses the chemistry. Nonstick paper (PTFE or FEP) is the workhorse of the pressing and dabbing world, and it is essential gear. It is where you catch the press, where you fold and collect, where you park a dab. What it is not is airtight. A sheet of nonstick paper does not block light, heat, or air transfer, so rosin left folded in paper on the counter degrades about as fast as rosin left in the open. Keep paper in your workflow for handling and transfer. Just do not mistake it for storage. If you press, quality parchment paper and nonstick sheets are must-haves, but they are step one, not the finish line.
Here is the trick that combines the strengths of each material. Place your rosin on a small square of nonstick paper or in a silicone insert, then put that inside a sealed glass jar, and store the jar cold and dark. The paper or silicone keeps the sticky oil easy to handle and easy to remove. The glass provides the airtight, inert, light-blocking seal that paper and silicone cannot. It is the best of both, and it is how I store anything I care about keeping past a couple of weeks.

People mix these up constantly, and it leads to jars sitting at the wrong temperature for the wrong reason. Curing and storing are two different jobs.
Cold curing is an active process, not a holding pattern. You take fresh live rosin, seal it in a jar, and hold it at roughly 50 to 60°F for 3 to 14 days. During that window the rosin homogenizes and transforms in texture, often whipping up from a wet, saucy press into a uniform butter or badder. The terpenes redistribute and the consistency stabilizes. This is a deliberate step that changes the product. It is not the same as tucking a finished jar away for safekeeping.
If you press fresh live rosin and immediately put it in the fridge, you may be cold curing it whether you meant to or not. That is often fine and even desirable. The point is to know which one you are doing. If the goal is to develop that creamy cold-cure texture, hold it in the 50 to 60°F range for the cure window first, then move it to colder long-term storage once it has set. If the goal is pure preservation of an already-finished product, skip straight to fridge or freezer. Your eyes and nose are real instruments here. Fresh, well-stored rosin looks bright and consistent and smells loud. As it ages or gets mistreated, it darkens, the top can develop a wet or oily sheen from separating terpenes, and the smell quiets down. If a jar you thought was sealed is darkening fast, your seal or your temperature is failing. Catching that early lets you fix the setup or use the batch before it slides further. Small size, easy access, and you are not repeatedly opening your main stash and dosing it with warm air every time you want a hit. Refill it from cold storage every few days.
Portion the batch into airtight glass jars sized so each one is nearly full. Label them with the strain and press date. Put them in the fridge at 32 to 40°F, ideally inside a sealed bag or box so they do not absorb fridge humidity or the smell of last night's leftovers. Pull one jar at a time. The unopened jars stay pristine while you work through the open one.

Headspace is the enemy, but so is a jar so overpacked that oil smears the threads and the lid never truly seals. The target is a jar that is nearly full of rosin with minimal air above it and a lid that closes clean. Match jar size to portion size and you solve both problems at once.
I said it above and it earns a second mention because it is the most common mistake I see. One communal jar that gets opened daily is a batch on a countdown. Portion into smalls. Your future self will taste the difference.
Silicone feels convenient and it is, right up until month two when the terps have faded and the oil is welded to the walls. Great for the week. Wrong for the season.
